Our story

Since the start in 1995, VENI Energy Group has established itself as a leading provider of energy services in the Nordics and beyond. We were an early innovator of solutions that meet important needs in the business market and have become a valued partner for a growing number of loyal customers.
The start in 1995 – Launching Energy Audit

VENI Energy Group can trace its roots back to 1995, when the entrepreneur Thomas Hakavik established Norsk Energirevisjon in Drammen. At that time, Norway was the first country in Scandinavia to liberalize the power market. Many companies with high energy consumption had entered into unfavorable agreements with energy suppliers and were often billed incorrectly due to complex new regulations. The Energy Audit service was therefore quickly in demand. Since then, the service has helped its business customers in Norway, Sweden and Finland receive reimbursements for incorrectly paid energy taxes and levies of close to a billion NOK.

1996 – Introducing Metering – Energy administration for commercial buildings

In 1996, a new service was launched – Metering and energy administration of commercial properties. The concept encompasses a simplification of management and organization for energy-efficient operation of multiple-tenant facilities, while avoiding additional cost for owners and tenants. The service – today Metering  – includes metering, cost allocation among tenants, invoicing and reporting. We are the market leader in Norway and serve an increasing number of customers in Sweden and Finland. In total, we handle energy at over 400 commercial buildings in the Nordic region.

1999 – Entering Sweden

In 1999, the company was established in Sweden. Today, all the Group's services are provided in Sweden, where we have an office in Gothenburg, as well as a sales office in Östersund

2006 – Strengthening business portfolio through Energy Sourcing operation

In 2006, the group started its own electricity sourcing operation under the name Samkjøp – today Energy Sourcing. The goal was to help companies in the SMB market source energy on the best possible terms. Today, the company is a leading player in the Nordic region and the Group manages more than 12 TWh (billion kWh) per year. Two thirds of the volume delivered in the Nordic region is certified environmentally friendly electricity. The number of customers is approaching 50,000.

2017 – Building a new stronghold in Finland

In 2016, Norvestor – a private equity firm in Oslo – became the largest shareholder in VENI Energy Group. An ambition was established to expand geographically. In line with this, VENI Energy Group in 2017 acquired Yrittäjäin Sähkönhankinta Oy and Enegia Market Services Oy in Finland, as well as Enegia Sweden AB in Sweden. With this, we significantly strengthened our presence in the Nordic region. In January 2018, Enegia Market Services in Finland was renamed VENI Energia in line with the group's name VENI Energy Group. In August 2021, the expansion continued with the acquisition of Greene Finland Oy. From 2025 all Finnish companies will be merged into VENI Energia Oy.

2024 – Expansion beyond the Nordics

In line with the ambition to expand our geographic presence, two more companies were added to VENI Energy Group in 2024. They are GU – Gesellschaft für Energie- und Umweltschütsberatung mbH in Germany and Novaluz Energia SL in Spain. Through these acquisitions, the group has strengthened and extended its platform for further growth.

Group ownership

Since 2016, funds managed by Norvestor – a private equity firm in Oslo – have been majority owners in VENI Energy Group. More than 25 percent of the Group is owned by more than 100 employees and members of management. Since Norvestor took ownership, the Group has expanded strongly throughout the Nordics and further into Europe.
